It’s been 15 years since the building on the corner of Lake Street and Main Avenue was a bank. Now the building houses Bender Realty. But it’s not out with the old and in the with the new—Amber and Bradley Bender are doing their best to incorporate the building’s history into their new business. The building still has the old teller station, the original vault, and the original marble, which Amber Bender’s father turned into a conference table for the new real estate agency. “We are super excited to take over the history of the building,” said Amber, adding that her dad is from Frazee and he actually got his first car loan from the People’s State Bank in Frazee. There’s a lot of memories in the old bank building, and the Benders are doing their best to keep them alive, but they’re also making memories of their own, writing their own history on the building. For example, there’s a small space at the back of the bank that has it’s own entrance, and the Benders have big plans for it, hoping to rent it to “first-time business owners.” The idea behind renting out the space is to help business […]

By: Barbie Porter Bender Realty and Property Management is coming to Frazee’s Main Avenue in early January. Owners of the realty company, Amber and Brad Bender, recently purchased This Old Bank building on the corner of State Highway 87 and Main Avenue from Kevin Ketter. The historical building caught the Acorn Lake residents’ attention, as did the prime location on the busiest corner in town. “We picked Frazee for our office location because there are real estate needs here,” Amber said, noting the last time she checked there were 29 properties in the Frazee area listed. The two plan to display historic bank documents and keep the remodeling motif with the building’s history in mind. “We don’t plan to paint the ceiling or walls and want to keep the marble floors and teller table,” Amber said. They approached Ketter and eventually a deal was struck. Currently the building has a retail business on the main floor and two upscale apartments upstairs. Amber said the rentals, which are both rented, will remain and the main retail space will be where the realty business is located. Bender Realty and Property Management became an official business about six […]

Frazee-Vergas Forum – 10/26/2016 Bender joins Frazee Planning Commission By:Barbie Porter Amber Bender applied and was recently appointed to the Frazee Planning Commission. The 30-year-old Acorn Lake resident owns a real estate company, is married to Brad and they have two children: Anthony, 10 and Krysten, 7. Her father, Rick Rasmussen, grew up in Frazee before moving to Moorhead to raise a family with his wife Diana. “I grew up in Moorhead but moved to the area when my daughter started kindergarten,” Bender said. “We were living in a cabin about 25 miles from school, and as my daughter got older we realized that was too long of a distance to travel with all the sporting events every day. So, we found a home closer to town a few years ago.” Bender said she was pleased when the home they found was in Frazee, as she recalled several visits she made with her father to the two-turkey town. Since becoming a resident of Frazee, Bender reviewed her options for getting involved and opted to apply to join the planning commission. The planning commission works with zoning issues and planning for city development, as well as approves building permits and interim […]
